Concert Sunday at Ellis Park!

Sunday looks to be a perfect summer evening for a concert at Ellis Park!  This week’s guest artists include the Orchestra Iowa Discovery Chorus singing a medley of Czech tunes, Nathan Langholz from Kennedy High School with a flashy rendition of Chopsticks on xylophone, and TCR’s Peter from Peter Pan (Sophia Lindwall) singing the Star Spangled Banner and Song of Dedication!  To top it off, you will also hear your favorite Gershwin and Glenn Miller tunes!  Pack a lawn chair, a picnic, and your family/friends and join us at Ellis!  For a special treat, arrive early for the New Horizons Band at 6:15!

Concert Wednesday at Bowman Woods School!

We are hoping the rain stays away Wednesday for our concert at Bowman Woods School Wednesday as we have some fantastic guest artists and classic swing charts everyone loves!  This week features the children’s Discovery Chorus and Nathan Langholz in a flashy rendition of Chopsticks for xylophone.  Bring your lawn chair and a picnic out to Bowman Woods School for a great variety of music tomorrow night!

Summer is here: First concert of the season at Greene Square Park!

It is one of the surest signs of summer: free concerts in the parks with the Cedar Rapids Municipal Band!  Please join us for our first concert of the season this Wednesday in Greene Square Park.  The Cedar Rapids Youth Wind Ensemble will perform a special prelude concert at 6:30 with the Municipal Band to follow at 7:30.  Pack your lawn chair, picnic, and a companion and join us for some beautiful music in a beautiful park!

Commission Meeting 25 March

The City Band Commission will meet in formal session on Saturday, 25 March 2017, in the band room at Washington High School. Scheduled start time is noon, but the meeting takes place in the middle of auditions and thus may move up or back slightly depending on circumstances.

Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a City program, service, or activity, should contact the Municipal Band Business Manager at 319-431-9649 or email business@crmuniband.org as soon as possible but no later than 48 hours before the event.

Auditions!

The City Band Commission is holding auditions on 25 March. We are looking primarily for trumpet and trombone, but we also are in need of more folks on the sub list in percussion. But as always, we’ll hear auditions for any section.

The 7th Annual CRMB Young Artist Scholarship Competition is coming up Tuesday, April 18. The City Band Commission will meet in formal session on Sunday, 29 January 2017, at 7 PM in Marquis Hall on the Coe College campus. Agenda includes election of Chair and Vice-Chair, financials, and setting the schedule for the 2017 season.

Our last concert of the season! Do not miss us tonight at Bever Park at 7:30! Our guest soloists this week are percussionists Michelle Colton and Alejandro Céspedes who are joining us from Toronto. Conductor Steve Shanley will even make an appearance on the keyboard. You will also hear other favorites like the Olympic theme and Tommy Dorsey’s TD’s Boogie Woogie.
